Excess Fat Underneath the Chin?
With the increased popularity of selfies, Facetime and Skype, people have been noticing how their chins look on camera. This has led to an increase in contouring/liposuction of the fatty tissue underneath the chin.
Liposuction can greatly improve the appearance of the fatty tissue under the chin. The procedure takes less than an hour and there is very little discomfort post operatively with minimal downtime and swelling. Varying liposuction methods using heat help the skin shrink better, such as the Vaser or Laser processes. These types of liposuction are preferred if the skin is slightly loose and important as well to maximize skin shrinkage.
Non surgical options such as Kybella (deoxycholic acid) injections also improve the appearance of skin under the chin by slowly breaking down the fat underneath. Usually the process takes two – four treatments all spaced six weeks apart with initial swelling that diminishes over four to six weeks. An evaluation is needed to assess whether or not you are a good candidate for this treatment.
If there is excessive skin underneath the chin, a more aggressive treatment may be needed, such as the neck lift. In this procedure, the excess skin is removed along with the muscles being tightened as well as liposuction. It is extremely important to have the procedure done by a knowledgeable and experienced plastic surgeon to avoid any post operative and or post treatment disappointment.
