NOSE SURGERY
Among all plastic surgery procedures,
nose enhancement, or
rhinoplasty, is among the most common. Nose enhancement can be performed on any part of the nose to increase or reduce its size, to modify the size and shape of the nostrils, tip of bridge or the nose, or to alter the slope or angle of the nose. Rhinoplasty may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing.
Dr. Hardaway often uses computer imaging before surgery to get an idea of the changes that you may want. This helps in preoperative planning. Rhinoplasty is usually performed under local or general anesthesia in an out-patient setting. An incision is made inside the nose and the bone and cartilage framework is then shaped and sculpted as desired. (Sometimes a small incision is made on the outside of the nose depending on the nature of the surgery). The skin is then re-draped over the new framework and a splint is applied to help your nose maintain its new form. In some cases, splints may be inserted in the nostrils to provide additional stability.Following surgery, bruising, swelling and discomfort can be expected, but all can be decreased with cold compresses and medication. Splints and stitches are removed within a week or two. Strenuous activities may be resumed within a few months.
